Grapes were first planted at Astley in 1971 by virticultural pioneers Michael and Betty Bache, this established the main vineyard site that forms today’s commercial vineyard, and is one of the oldest remaining in England. The main 5 acre vineyard is sited on gently sloping, free-draining Triassic red sandstone loams within half a mile of the river Severn. The current owners took over in 1993, taking over the basic principles of their predecessors, low yielding vines dedicated to producing the highest quality fruit, they have practised new trellising techniques and extended the range of wine styles with new varieties and wine making techniques.
All Astley wines are PDO ( Product of a Designated Origin) status, which means they go through a process of chemical analysis, winery record inspection and a tasting panel of experts, before they are released for sale.
