Bolney Wine Estate
Bolney Wine Estate was founded in 1972 by Rodney and Janet Pratt and started with 3 acres. It is now at 39 acres. The daughter, Sam Linter, is the Head winemaker and Managing Director. Sam took over the reins on the winemaking front in the 1990s and is now ably assisted by Liz Garrett who graduated from Plumpton College. Liz has recently returned from a vintage at Cloudy Bay earlier in 2013.
Bolney Wine Estate is situated on the outskirts of a small village called Bolney, 14 miles due North of Brighton in West Sussex. The vineyards are south facing and surround the winery. The wine estate was awarded the IWSC UK Wine Producer of the Year in November 2012.
The soil type found in Bolney Wine Estate is the Upper Tunbridge Wells Sand – consists of Sandstone, Siltstone and Clay. The Sedimentary Bedrock was formed approximately 132 to 137 million years ago in the Cretaceous period.
